All the sketches on Ink in Progress are done by me. Most of them involve the rejection penguin, my puppy, or a story I’m writing. I use sketches to help me focus on my writing. (I have trouble writing visual detail. Seeing a picture helps me become aware of details to put in the story.)
Not every writer is capable of drawing however, and I wonder what non-writing things you do to help bring along a WIP. Feel free to share. ^^ I’ll leave this one to you.

When I arrive at the fleshing out stage, I read a scene and pull myself into it close up and linger there until details emerge. I like your drawing idea. A visual stimulus brings delight into one’s mind enhancing one’s creative urge like water and sunshine encourage growth and bring beauty into nature.

I do not draw. Long ago I’d make small models of rooms or towns, but my household now can’t handle any more clutter. Mainly, I do as Holly suggests, and that is “stand in my scene.” If I were to draw my fictional place, it would be like a lampshade, the picture would go all around me. It wouldn’t–couldn’t–be a flat poster or photograph.
However, what I do sometimes do is make something–crochet a sack for someone’s cell phone, or make a small piece of jewelry from not-precious materials–that is non-linear. Writing is so this happens, then this happens, then this happens. With jewelry (even my jewelry is mostly make of paper), I can enter the project at several different places. Does this make sense? I can refresh my mind by using it in a completely different way.
Wish I could draw. That is an awesome ability.
