I got a Sony E-Reader for my birthday. ^^
I GOT A SONY E-READER FOR MY BIRTHDAY! YAY!!!!!!!!!
I can’t begin to describe how thrilled I am to have one. I’ve thought about buying one for over a year now, discussed the pros and cons intimately with myself, and in the end could not justify spending hundreds of dollars just to condense my library.
Happily, I have family perfectly willing to do the spending for me!
Having an e-reader is a lot different than I thought it would be. For one thing, it isn’t as hard to read as a computer screen. (I told myself it would be as an excuse not to get one.) I was also surprised to discover that I don’t mind pushing a button instead of flipping a page, and that the smell of paper isn’t nearly as charming as the ability to carry 400 books right next to my keys and wallet.
So far I have not discovered any pitfalls to it. I’m sure problems will appear with time. Right now, I’m just enjoying the fact that I have one! Now I need to find someone who owns a kindle, and an ipad to give their reports, and we can decide which one is best. 🙂

I have a friend that just got a Kindle. He likes it very much! The screen is very eyeball-friendly. I will eventually get one, not necessarily Kindle. Not all books are available in electronic form yet. I believe we are on the verge of seeing more and more literature offered as e-books. Congratulations on getting one and Happy Birthday!

I was just posting about this subject myself! Definitely looking into it. Same as you, though, can’t afford it right now. *sigh* Enjoy!

FAN-DAM-TAS-TIC!!! I am soooooo jealous. If you let me have it, you are hereby invited to all of my fantasy dinners henceforth and forever more. What size is your e-reader? I am really having a war with my inner and somewhat financially responsible self…should I or shouldn’t I? Unfortunately the bank account and my husband both say no! Can I help it if they have such limited vocabularies? Oh well, when my book of “Odes to the Everyday” is published someday soon and the royalties start pouring in, I’m sure I will have at least two – maybe the Sony deluxe model and a Kindle, and…whatever else is out there! Talk about wishful thinking! I have come up with one drawback, as you will see at the end of the following “Ode,” written fairly recently:
Ode to My e-Books
Here’s to my books on a glowing screen,
and to the ones on CD,
Better than they’ve ever been,
read and heard simultaneously!
On your PC, iPod, Sony or Kindle,
The total amount of money you spend will
Depend on the types of gadgets you use
And the places you’ll be or the moments you’ll choose
To read or to listen: on a couch, in a car,
On the beach, as you jog – wherever you are!
For the great thing about these bits of technology
Is the writing’s still there! And with no apology
I’ll point out to those who are reading this now, your
Cyber-medium has brought you that power!
So here’s to our books! Whatever the media –
Be it poetry, fiction or encyclopedia,
The pleasures derived from reading will be
Forever available as long as we
Can dismiss the biases we have for dust-jackets
And learn to peruse an internet stack. It’s
nice to imagine that some day down the road
We’ll not be bent low by the large heavy load
Of books we’ve bought and need to build shelves for –
Now that is a dream worth stretching ourselves for!
(Just one problem I feel needs addressing:
What will we do when our flowers need pressing?)
Thanks again for the great post – and I am really happy for you! I’ve added your blog to my blogroll! That should bring in TONS of readers for you! 😀
